Spike Stitch (spst): insert your hook into the row directly below the spot where you would insert it if this were a normal single crochet stitch, then do a normal single crochet by doing a yo, pull up a loop, drawing the loop up so that the top of it lines up with the other single crochet stitches in the row, yo, pull through two loops.
Additional Notes
You can easily adjust the pattern for different weights of yarn and different sizes of pouches.
You can do whatever repeat of yarn colors that you want. You can mix them all up, you can repeat the same sequence of colors - whatever you'd like!
Pattern
Ch 31 (or the width of your pouch +1).
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc across. Do not turn. You’re going to rotate the ch to now work into the bottom of the ch. Work a sc in the bottom of the last ch, then work sc across. Slst to first sc made into the ch, f/o. (60)
Row 2: Turn your work to work the WS. [Create a slip-knot of a new color, insert your hook into any st, and pull your slip knot through. Ch 1, sc in the same st], sc across starting in the first st, working all around the oval. Keep your yarn ends in the inside of the bag. F/o, turn to the RS. You’ll be repeating the same steps of attaching a new color for every row, shown between [ and ]. I will now just be referring to this as “cc”.
Row 3: You will always be working this row on the RS. CC. [Sc, spst] Repeat from [ to ] until the last st. Slst to first sc. F/o, turn to the WS.
Row 4 - 6: CC. Sc across, slst to first sc. F/o, turn.
Row 7 - 27: Repeat rows 3 - 6. You will end between the repeat. (if you have another bag size, work the repeat until you reach the height of your pouch - more is better!)
You’re now going to attach it to your zipper pouch. I HIGHLY recommend blocking your work before attaching it.
You’re going to be working underneath the flap on the inside of the pouch to hide your join. To start, place the zipper pouch into your crochet. I recommend using safety pins to set the corners.
Using a small metal crochet hook, insert the hook through any st, then poke it through the bag, under the flap on the inside. Grab your yarn, and pull it through leaving a 3” tail on the inside. Then, insert the hook into the next st, poke a hole through the bag under the flap on the inside, grab your yarn and pull it through, and slst. Continue across all around the pouch. Once you meet where you started, cut your yarn, f/o. Then, pull your yarn tail through with your crochet hook, and tie the two ends together. Then, use your crochet hook to pull the tails back out, and hide them between the lining and your crochet bag.
Then you're done! I really hope that you enjoy this pattern. I'd love it if you tagged me in the finished product @mae.crochets on Instagram!
Such a quick fun pattern! I have been obsessed with the stash bust projects but don’t have the patience for them, so this was absolutely perfect!
